A cat morning of disaster

I rose from my bed and crawled down stairs for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.  I took my first sip of hot coffee and was savoring the heat and flavor when “CRASH” came from overhead.  I cringed.  What have the cats done now?  I wondered.  Should I go up and find out?  I sighed and decided to strengthen myself with breakfast first.  I hurriedly made my oatmeal and banana.  I wolfed the food down because I didn’t know if anything was leaking upstairs.  Finished eating and trying to keep down the food that had gone into an empty belly too quickly, I raced up the stairs.

The bathroom was fine; nothing fallen; nothing broken.  I breathed a sigh of relief and made my way into the first bedroom.  Everything was fine; no broken glass; no piles of unwanted things on the floor.  Now I approached the second bedroom.  What would I find?  I stepped to the door and took a cursory look about.  Everything appeared to be fine.  I stepped in further and still could find no wrong.  I sighed and smiled.  They must have just been on something and fell to the floor with a loud bump; they were heavy enough.

With a lighter air, I began pulling out the clothes that I would wear that day.  Everything was quite well until I opened my closet to get out my slacks.  A gray blur raced between my legs and the source of the crash became abundantly clear!  Everything that had been on the shelves in my closet was now on the floor.  Everything!  Including all of the breakable vases and knick knacks that I had carefully stored away for safe keeping!  Furious, I turned to look away from the disaster so I could calm down and I came face to face with the gray cause of the disaster.  He must have slipped into the closet when I reached for my robe.  Now he sat, calm and content, smiling at me as if he were the King of the house.

I looked into his eyes and shouted “what have you done?”  He looked up at me, sniffed my nose, and meowed sweetly before calmly washing his face.  “Do you know what you’ve done?” I shouted at him.  He stopped cleaning, sniffed my nose again, licked it, and went back to cleaning.  “Aaargharrghaargh!” I shout.  “Now I will have to spend the entire day cleaning up your mess and throwing away several valuable keepsakes!”  My cat stopped cleaning; looked at me with sad sorrowful eyes; meowed sweetly; jumped up and placed his paws on my shoulders and rubbed his face on my cheek before jumping down and racing off to find some other mischief to get into.  I was furious with him!  I could have skinned him for what he had done in my closet!  I wanted to….I wanted to….  He jumped back up and sat facing me with his favorite toy in his mouth and looked at me as if asking for me to play.  When I didn’t respond right away, he dropped the toy and meowed pitifully.

I glared at him!  How dare he?  He meowed again and smiled; of all things!  I tried to pretend that I was still angry, but his smile was getting to me.  He washed his paw and smiled again.  **SIGH** I grabbed the toy and threw it.  He raced after it, brought it back and dropped it in front of me.  We played for about 30 minutes before I got dressed and cleaned up the mess he had created in my closet.  I hate my cat sometimes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
