What could possibly be in your kitchen that could harm you, you wonder? What could create bright lights that hover just off of the floor? What could it be? Suddenly, the lights rise higher and begin to move closer to you!!!!! Fear grips your heart and you take a fearful step back while reaching for the light switch. You don’t find it at first and you grope about the wall trying to find it before the lights get too close. You take another step back. And another. You are even with the doorway now and you remember that the light is just to the left. You jump to the left and slap the switch. Light fills the previously dark room and you turn your head to see what it was that frightened you.
“Meow,” cries the cat that had been sleeping on the rug near the heater. “Meow; purrrrrrrr.”
You breathe a sigh of relief and then quickly look about. Good, no one saw a thing. You are safe, for now. You move to the fridge and grab up the leftover cake from dinner. You grab an empty bowl and pour the cat some milk so he will stay quiet and you sit at the table gratefully gobbling down the sweet treat.
In the morning, you come down to the kitchen and find the family up and about getting breakfast. You pour yourself a coffee and sit at the table sipping it while watching the activity. Your wife comes to sit beside you at the table and she is smiling brightly at you.
“What?” you ask trying to figure out why she is smiling.
"Oh, nothing,” she says casually, “the cat didn’t frighten you or anything when you came down for the cake last night, did he?”
Angrily, you look at the cat and wonder how in the world he tattled on you! And you silently plot your revenge!
