Today, Salty, not to be

“Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a a very
large cat that was sooooo lazy that all he did all day long was sleep. In the evenings, when the sun went down and
the breeze cooled him off, he would rise and seek food. But since he hadn’t done anything all day
long, there was no food for him to eat.
He grew angry and began to prowl around snarling and growling out his
frustration. Then he called to the
different animals to come to him so he could eat; but none came. He was outraged because he was, after all, a
feline and the King of the Jungle, which meant that everyone was supposed to
answer to him. He growled once more;
still none came to feed him.
He decided that two could play that game and he began
to prowl about sniffing the air for the scent of live bait. He found it just beyond the small clump of
bushes and he moved stealthily in that direction. He spotted a rabbit just leaving a small
clearing where there had been several sweet clover plants. He pounced, claws out and teeth bared, but
the rabbit raced away and then sat on a stone taunting him in his lack of
speed. Now he was very angry and began
to howl his anger and frustration. At
that very moment, a man called from the area where he had been napping. He raced to the spot and found a huge bowl of
food waiting for him and prepared just the way he liked it.
“Bout time,” he muttered as he lay down near the bowl
and began to feast.
Wow, the cats loved this
story and wondered where Salty had acquired it, but Salty went silent and would
not tell.
