Do cats know about rainbows and the leprechauns? Do they search for the pot of gold at the end of their own private rainbow? Well, perhaps, but cats don't live for tomorrow, unlike we humans do. Cats live for the moment with each moment slowly developing into another moment.

He lives for the moment... |
Take, for instance, the outdoor cat. He lives for the next meal, the place to sleep for the night and the occasional pet or treat from a stranger. He fights for whatever he gets and he struggles for each day that he lives. But if you take a cat that is thriving in the outside world and bring him inside, he will not be happy. Cats are natural hunters. They love to live outside, until it gets cold, that is. But indoors it is too warm for them and they will try to get out no matter what the weather. Then they will race away like they are on fire and chase their rainbow for the next several hours. So, when that spring time rainbow appears in the sky above, remember that the cat, the outdoor cat, is happy in his environment until, of course, the snows begin to fall.
