Shadow is trouble again........

There is a new issue with the Cat Household; the newbie is becoming quite the bothersome creature.  No matter where the other cats go, Shadow is there, watching and waiting.  Waiting for what....we do not know but he is obviously waiting.  Even the humans have been having a bit of a problem with the newbie.  No matter where you look, there he is--watching; waiting; warning; and just as you realize he is there----POUNCE!
Watching, waiting.......

Dusty sees colors

Rest and peace have been running rampant in the Cat Household lately because the Holidays took sooooo much out of the kitties this year.  Between the choosing gifts, wrapping, remembering who gets what, etc.  well they are just wiped out.  However, it is time for them to wake up and smell the coffee because the days do continue to march on and winter is hardly over.

Here is Dusty, folks, remembering how hard he worked and......."Dusty, what colors are you talking about?  Did you get into the cat nip again?!?

Salty is trying to play at sleeping.....

The house is pretty active right now as the humans begin their preparations for the Christmas Holiday.  The Cats, fearing the humans might try to put them to work, are trying to remain out of the way by sleeping in out of the way places.  They have even given up their morning nap for a deep, don't hear a thing, sleep.  Look there's Salty...what is he doing?  Oh, I don't believe this; Salty is pretending he is still asleep so he can play with some of the human's ribbons and not get in trouble.  How sneaky can you get.  "Salty, wake up!"  Oh, he is playing it to the hilt.  Wait until the humans catch him.......

Hmmm, maybe he is asleep....What do you think?

The toys are coming out again.

Good morning everyone.  What a wonderful day it is in the Cat Household.  Today the pets are breaking out their special gadgets for another holiday celebration and the cats are having a wonderful time chasing and tossing them.  Why even the older cats are getting involved in the games.  Here is Shadow (the troublesome newbie) getting his fair share of problems because the other cats have begun to bury him in the hat and stockings that always seem to come out.  Think he will be lost?  Naw, the Cat Household isn't that lucky......

That newbie is trouble with a capital "T"!

Well, all is well on this crisply cool day in November.  The Cat Household is waking up slowly and and stretching out the kinks from their unusual sleep positions.  Here is Shadow as he.....wait, WHAT IS THAT?  Oh no, Shadow is stuck to it!  Will he ever be free?  Will he find a way out of this horrible situation?  Will he receive help from the human that seems to be guiding this horrid object?  "Shadow, don't give up!"  Do you  think he is stuck that way forever?   *SIGH* it's that curiosity of his.  Someday it will take his ninth life if he isn't careful.

Oh the sleeping.......

Wow, Thanksgiving must have take a whole lot more out of these cats than first expected.  I mean all they have done since that day is sleep.  Sleep in the living room; sleep in the bathroom tub; sleep in the hallway; even sleep in the bedroom; they are sleeping everywhere.  I wonder how we can get them energized once more.....but, look at them.  They are so cute and cuddle and look so innocent when they are sleeping:

The Cat Household has begun to settle down after their Halloween excitement and.....

Some images are by Nemo and can be found on

Each of them is enjoying their much needed cat naps.  Tigger is truly enjoying his sleeping time.  Look at that smile.  I wonder what he is dreaming of; could it be another cat; could it be his fellow housemates; could it be his own beauty?  I wonder what it could be.  Oh yes, just look at that.  It is really not hard to see it now.......

The strangeness of cats

These cats are really getting strange.  I wonder if it is being cooped up all day with nothing but humans to talk to; or perhaps it is all the attention they get which keeps waking them up; or could it be the constant strange noises coming from the closet, under the bed, and the stairway.........

Cats are naturally inquisitive and will climb into the most unusual places trying to find out what is in there and what makes it tick.  Try to keep dangerous items in a closed room or cabinet that they can't get open (you'd be surprised how many of them can get the cabinets open).  Don't leave open containers with dangerous items inside sitting where the cats can get to them.  And be sure to cover hot burners with a pan of water so that the cats won't burn themselves when they get curious about what is up there (the clicks of the burner cooling often draws their attention more than the food that is there).

Cats love their water...

Cat's, like all animals, need plenty of hydration to remain healthy.  Be sure to give your feline companion fresh water daily (and clean the bowl as often as possible to remove the slimy covering of spit that accumulates while the cats drink).  Your cats (and all your pets) will thank you for it.  PS:  See how much Tiger likes his water.......

Salty is a bit upset.

You see, the cats in the household don't really like his chosen costume and they have been making fun of him all week.  In fact, Mittens actually told him that he looked girlie and un-scary.  He even went so far as to tell Salty that he should just go as he is because that is scarier than any costume he could come up with.  Salty retaliate with a bit of his own wit by telling Mittens that the stupid 'cat mask' he chose is stupider than any of the other costumes and if anyone was un-scary it was him.  Mittens, enraged by that comment, told Salty....oh....it's sooo awful but.....okay-Mittens told Salty that he was-----acting human!

Just what are those silly cats doing in the window like that?

Today, they seem to be totally involved in some insignificant leaf or bug tossing about in the wind.  Really?  Couldn’t they have found something more interesting to look at?  Hmmm, let’s see.  No bugs floating around; no leaves dancing in the wind.  I just don't see what they are looking at.  Have they gone mad?  Are they finally insane?  Are they, oh, ah, oops, now I see what they are looking at:

The cats of the Cat Household are always sleeping, and....

Some of them have dreams about their adventures in the wild.  They often shake and jump as they valiantly chase their enemies and destroy them for the good of the family.  Here is Shadow, dreaming away about....wait....he is really jumping about and crying in his sleep.  I wonder what he is seeing.  Perhaps we can sneak a peek at his dreams-----Wow, sometimes his dreams seem to be sooooo real-no wonder he is jumping and crying!

If you are a pet lover, you know that pets often dream just as humans do and sometimes their dreams do seem to be real to them.  If your pet seems to be having a really rough dream, try Gently touching them and softly calling their name to wake them up.  A good pet session and then they are off to sleep once more, this time it will, hopefully, be much quieter.

Is the Cat Household in trouble?

The cats have all settled down for a long morning's nap and all is quiet as they snooze away.  But what is this?  Is Dusty possessed?  Where did this come from?  Wake up!  Wake up everyone!  Oh no, I think I might be too late; I think they might be too deep asleep.  I can't watch!

You never know what the Cat Household will be doing next…

Today, out of the clear blue, the cats of the Cat Household decided to check out each other’s costumes for trick or treating.  When several of the members voiced their unkind opinion of Mittens’ mask, he wondered what could possibly be wrong with it.  Perhaps you should judge for yourself.  Here is Mittens with his Halloween mask for trick or treating--do you think it is a good choice for him?

WHY?  WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?

Yesterday was the best day ever!

The entire family of human pets left the house and were gone for hours.  The cats could run, jump, climb, lie on, and play with anything they wanted for hours without getting shooed away or yelled at by the pets.  It was wonderful!  The entire household was up and away getting into everything that they are not usually allowed to get into when pets are around.  They had a ball and, just as the pets returned home, the cats abandoned their fun and took a well deserved nap.  What a day!

Cat owners beware--cats will get into things that are forbidden when you are not around to stop them.  Be sure to cover, close, block off, or otherwise put away items that they shouldn't be playing with to prevent injuries.  If you cannot put the item away, try putting the cats in a separate room until you come home.  This is for more than your peace of mind, if your cats get into things and swallow something--like a sewing needle--it could kill them.  Keep your cats safe and sound while you are gone.

Oh, it is a bright sunny Autumn day in the Cat Household…..

Look, he's already dreaming
about the sleeping
portion of the days events.
And all are anxious about making the most of their day.  They are raring to go with all the activities that make a day wonderful.  Let’s see, Mittens is in charge of the lists so let’s consult him to see what he has in store.  Mittens says:  “The first thing on my list is a good rousing stint of napping-what better way to prepare for the day's excitement.  Next we will yawn, stretch, nibble a bit at our food and then take a much needed nap.  Then, just as we are waking up from our naps, we will chase the newbie out of the way (sorry Shadow) and play with a toy that we like for about, oh say 5 minutes or so, then on to the noon meal and a much needed nap.  The afternoon will be filled with even more excitement as we gather together and share a group nap for the benefit of all just before we chase the newbie out of the room for disturbing our naps (sorry again Shadow).  Finally, we will sleep the afternoon away while we await the moon’s appearance so we can frolic and play in the deep dark corners of the empty rooms.”

Wow, what an incredible day he has planned for the Cat Household.  Way to go Mittens!

Oh no, not again! The Cat Household is being invaded by a...a...what is that thing?

Tigger is a Registered Disney Character
It was a quiet day and the cats of the household were taking their early morning nap when suddenly a loud growl filled the air.  Petrified, but curious, they rose from their warm comfy beds and slunk to the top of the stairs for a peek at the creator of the growl.  There, standing a full 7 feet tall with yellow flashing eyes and ghost-like coloring stood a…a…whatever it was the cats were frightened out of their furry wits.  Only one of them, Dusty, was brave enough to make his silent way down the stairs to check out this latest aggravation to his morning naps.  He slunk and slithered, as cats will, down one stair at a time with that huge monstrosity getting closer and closer to him.  Suddenly the monstrosity pounced on Dusty and began to giggle.  Petrified, Dusty raced back upstairs to the safety of his bed and told the others that it had attacked him.

Just then a human came into the room holding a rather smallish white stuffed animal that had apparently gone pale with fear at the sight of Dusty stalking him.  Hmmm, Scaredy Cats!

Cats are often very curious even when it is best for them not to be with certain things.  They will stick their nose, paw, tail, and whiskers into whatever you are doing or is in the house, just because they are curious.  Be careful with things that could harm them.  Be sure to keep them in an enclosed area where the cats cannot  go; and be sure to keep ribbons, strings, yarn, sparklies and such way out of
each, and out of sight.   Like this 6 drawer cabinet shown here.

Hide, everyone hide!  Get deep, get dark, get out of sight!

Yes, the cat carrier has come out once again and that can mean only one thing, one of the Cat Household is going on a trip-one that may mean their end.  No one knows which will be chosen and everyone is frightened.  They hide under beds, behind furniture, in closets, and under sinks to avoid notice and capture.  Everyone is frightened.  Everyone is worried about the others in their home.  Everyone--oh no, here comes the human.  Which will they chose?  Which will be sent to the chamber of horrors?  But the carrier is being put away, what could that mean?  Did we miss something?  Everyone come out and be counted!  Oh no, the newbie, though we get angry with him so often, is missing from our home.  What have they done to him?  Oh, poor poor Shadow.  Will he ever come home?

THE NEXT DAY:  Shadow is brought into the home smelling of funny scents and looking just awful.  What have they done to you, pal?  Are you OK?  Shadow clears his throat and smiles:  “I jussss had an aventurrr.  Iz good now.”  And he stumbles away to sleep off his adventure.  We may never know the horrors he has experienced.  Poor poor Shadow.

If you are having trouble getting your pet spayed or neutered, try contacting your local vet for information on getting assistance with the costs.  Also, if you adopt an animal rather than purchase one, you not only give them a great chance on a new life, but they are usually spayed or neutered before you get them.

The adventure that Tiger went on yesterday was so frightening to the other members of the cat household that they had horrid dreams all night long and have vowed that they will never, ever, ever, venture from the house on their own!

Cats are very curious and will often duck out the open door to investigate the outside; however, they are totally unaware of the consequences of being outside and could get hurt.  Please, keep a close eye on your cat and do your best to keep them from racing outside into the dangers of the outside world.  Inside cats do not know to avoid such hazards as moving vehicles, dangerous plants,
or other cats.  To keep them safe and still allow them to roam outside, try purchasing a harness, like the one pictured here, so you can walk them and allow them to check things out.  Be prepared to have short walks the first time you use one, though, because cats are independent and hate to be on leashes, but they will get used to it.

Well, each of the Cat Household has been given a chance to take a ride somewhere new.

Tiger, feeling that he is the biggest and therefore the bravest, took his ride first.  He joined his pets in a trip around the area to enjoy the local farms and explore new ideas.  His first adventure took him to the entrance to a a park with a funny looking fence post with nothing else attached to it.  When Tiger took a whiff, all he could smell was dog--he moved quickly away from that area.  Then next thing he saw was a building seemingly made all of glass.  He marvelled at how pleasant it must be to live in such a building with the sun shinning on you all day long.  Lastly, he came to a weird looking case that seemed to be moving.  He drew closer and realized it was those fuzzy bugs that often bump into the windows.  They must have somehow gotten inside the windows and were trying to get out.  They must have been in there for a long time judging from the intensiveness of the activity going on in there.  Tiger returned home with photos to show the rest of the household that he had actually gone on his trip.  The rest of the household was only slightly impressed and immediately went about deciding who would be the next to travel out of the house, after a short nap, of course.
