New Year begins.....

New Year has finally come and the Cat Household couldn't be happier.  They have been working really hard to prepare themselves for the celebration (not because they celebrate, but because the humans become so silly that it is worth watching).  On the night of New Year's Eve, they were not disappointed when their human companions began acting like they were children again.  They raced about, shouted a lot, and giggled incessantly.  The cats of the household had been practicing staying up all night so they could observe and enjoy the silly antics of their human companions, but New Year's Day found them exhausted and needing much rest to regain their strength:   

Oh the sleeping.......

Wow, Thanksgiving must have take a whole lot more out of these cats than first expected.  I mean all they have done since that day is sleep.  Sleep in the living room; sleep in the bathroom tub; sleep in the hallway; even sleep in the bedroom; they are sleeping everywhere.  I wonder how we can get them energized once more.....but, look at them.  They are so cute and cuddle and look so innocent when they are sleeping:

Time is slowing down now that the cooler weather is here...

The Cat Household is really getting into their napping now.  The wind has picked up and Jack Frost has begun to paint his beautiful designs all over the windows.  All of the cats have their different dreams that come to entertain during the cold seasons like Cocoa and his writing and Mittens and his becoming a super hero.  Here Tigger is really into his dream.  Let's take a peek and see what he is dreaming about.

The Cat Household is getting ready for their big feast.

The Cat Household has been prepping (with many naps in the sun) so they are ready for that all important feast that is coming up.  In fact, following the usual family tradition, they have begun to pull out the decorations for Christmas so that they can be put up after the Thanksgiving Holiday ends.  Here they are now, napping away, why isn't that cute, Tiger has found himself a warm soft pillow in the sun.  Oh, and below that, he is demonstrating the proper use of those little stockings you find all over the stores at this time of the year. What a lovely day this has turned out to be.

The newbie strikes again.......

Things are pretty quiet at the Cat Household today.  The cats are all resting nicely (morning naps are so refreshing, don't you think?).  So peace and quiet is reining here today.....Not again.  That newbie is soooo much trouble.  Here he is hogging the stockings and has even claimed the Santa hat that Cocoa usually wears for his blog.  Oh, how outrageous is that?  It can't be allowed to happen.  Everyone, gather in a circle around him and get those things away, he hasn't been here long enough to have earned them!  Let's get closer, uh, ah, look at those eyes......hmmm, I think we might want to humor him and wait until he tires of holding them, don't you?

The Cat Household has begun to settle down after their Halloween excitement and.....

Each of them is enjoying their much needed cat naps.  Tigger is truly enjoying his sleeping time.  Look at that smile.  I wonder what he is dreaming of; could it be another cat; could it be his fellow housemates; could it be his own beauty?  I wonder what it could be.  Oh yes, just look at that.  It is really not hard to see it now.......

Will the newbie never learn?

How embarrassing!  Shadow, the newbie from (well you can guess, right) has begun to truly do things that the rest of the house are finding very embarrassing, and, to be honest, distasteful.  For instance:  just the other day he was caught sleeping in the cover of the trash can.  Yes, sadly they caught him in there sleeping away the afternoon like he was in a fancy golden bed or something.  They tried to get him up, but he just snoozed on totally oblivious of their shame.  How could he?  Will he never learn?

Are the cats getting silly?

Wow, it looks like the Cat Household is really starting to get themselves ready for the holidays.  I think they have gone a bit to far ahead, though, since Thanksgiving comes first.

"Hey guys, you should be pulling out the Turnkey and Pilgrim decorations.  Put those Christmas things back and get out the orange, brown, and red items."



Hmmm, I guess they aren't listening very well today.  I mean, they have begun their own list of items they want to get.  Look, they even included pictures so Santa will know what they mean.  Silly cats, don't they know that Santa doesn't visit cats?  He's a human kind of guy, right?  Oh well, hope they at least get what they ask for.

The Cat Household is gearing up for the holidays....

The Cat Household has begun pulling out their decorations for the upcoming Holidays and they have found some wonderful toys they forgot they even had.  The pets are pulling out some of their decorations, too, and here is Shadow.......Uh Oh, I think he may be getting in trouble again.....

The strangeness of cats

These cats are really getting strange.  I wonder if it is being cooped up all day with nothing but humans to talk to; or perhaps it is all the attention they get which keeps waking them up; or could it be the constant strange noises coming from the closet, under the bed, and the stairway.........

Cats are naturally inquisitive and will climb into the most unusual places trying to find out what is in there and what makes it tick.  Try to keep dangerous items in a closed room or cabinet that they can't get open (you'd be surprised how many of them can get the cabinets open).  Don't leave open containers with dangerous items inside sitting where the cats can get to them.  And be sure to cover hot burners with a pan of water so that the cats won't burn themselves when they get curious about what is up there (the clicks of the burner cooling often draws their attention more than the food that is there).

The Cat Household is back to normal, or it was.....

Normal at last!  The Cat Household has begun to settle back into their routine and they are loving the peace and quiet after the active (and very loud) Halloween excitement.  Although Thanksgiving and Christmas are now very close, the cats feel that those two holidays are more for relaxing and playing quietly at home than racing about trying to come up with unique outfits that will scare but be easily worn.  And so, here at the Cat Household they sit about and resume their quiet.........what in the world is Mittens doing?

"Mittens, get that flip-flop out of your mouth this minute!"

"Can't, it tastes so **nomnomnom** good."
"Oh how could you, it must be awful?"
"MMMMMMMMMM, sides it strengthens my teeth."
"*******sigh*******, We can dress him up, but we can't take him anywhere!"

With the Holidays coming.....

I wanted to add a few words of advice to all you cat owners out there.  Below you will find a list of items that can be very dangerous to your cat.  Be careful with these items and be sure to keep them well out of your cat's reach:

Also, check out any plants you wish to bring into the home to see if they are poisonous to cats (for example:  poinsettias are deadly).

Tricks or Treats are over and.......

Looks like Tiger truly enjoyed his tricks or treats.

The Cat Household went out for their annual tricks or treats and came back with huge buckets strapped to their backs and filled with all sorts of catnip treats.  I bet they won't be too active over the next few months, or will they?

Now that the Halloween fun is over for another year, you should be aware that most candies are dangerous for cats (and most animals) so the kids shouldn't share.  Also, all those bright colored, crinkly papers that the treats come in can also be dangerous.  These things are seen as toys and are often tossed about and ripped up (and many times pieces are swallowed).  When disposing of candy wrappers, please be sure to place in a covered container so that the animals can't find them.  

Creepy costumes giving bad dreams......

With all of the scary costumes lurking about the Cat Household, Dusty has found that he has nightmares when he sleeps alone.  Anything he is near takes on a whole new appearance and creepy crawlies are everywhere.  Now, normally he would like to chase the creepy crawlies around, but there seems to be fire and smoke and ominous glows and lightening is flashing right over head and...and...and well, he hasn't been sleeping too well lately.  I wonder if we should curb the costumes for the time being.......

Are they asleep or just challenging each other?

Have you ever noticed that the cats seem to sleep their entire day and most of their nights away?  They curl up anywhere and just fall asleep at the drop of a dime--just look at them, sleeping away, or are they challenging each other to see who can sleep the longest?  Hmm, I think they are working too hard at that challenge, just look, they have been asleep so long the spiders have moved in.....

Halloween is close, who's costume is next?

Well, here is Tiger, he went all out and even insisted that his works of art (pumpkins) be displayed with him.  He recruited the help of some of his best friends to dangle pictures of bats and birds so that he would have a real spooky picture.  How do you think he looks in all his make-up?

Another costume in the Cat Household....

So not to be outdone, Tigger has been working very hard on his costume for Halloween.  He has even hired some rather nasty looking goblins to follow him about and look really scary.  Wow, he even has the pumpkin patch looking rather scary.  Uh, Tigger, watch out for the spiders, oh and the ghosts, and......oh now I'm really scared...

Mittens tried to change his costume and....

Mittens was so horrified that all he had for a costume was a mask and all the others were going all out on their costumes, that he decided to go seeking for a new costume that would wipe the others right out.  He searched in the bedrooms and under the beds.  He searched in the closets and under the towels.  He searched in the bathtub and behind the toilet.  He searched in the kitchen and.....oh, what did he find there?  He found the scariest pumpkins in the world.  Just look....oh, don't mind the sweater, Mittens was cold so he donned a sweater to stay warm as he searched.....

Another costume, what do you think?

Dusty prepared his costume very carefully and then he descended, just as the sun was going down, upon his fellow felines to see how well he did.  His fellows were properly frightened by his appearance and ran to find a hiding place before the Zombie Feline could catch them.  What do you think?  Is he scary enough?

Salty was really working hard on creating his devil costume for Halloween, that is until he had a dream that the devil didn't like the costume and appeared to him in a dream.....
